First digicam below $5,000 that matches film quality - OCT 15, 2004
The EOS 20D is the latest digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera body created for the serious shutterbug or semi-professional market. In the short history of digital cameras, this particular 8-megapixel body represents a very important milestone. In my opinion, it is the first DSLR that effectively matches or exceeds film quality at a price that's below $5,000. Imagine, just six years ago, a Canon professional DSLR with a 2-megapixel resolution cost $30,000 at its launch.

Looks like the beginning of the end for traditional film cameras. Granted the $3000 price tag is a bit more than a film camera. However at a 1000% price drop over 6 years you can expect sub-$1000 film quality cameras in a couple years. I would guess in 10 years film cameras will be relegated to the hippy art-student crowd.
